If you have purchased UVP ultraviolet equipment, lamps, radiometers or other laboratory

products over the years, you may have noticed some important changes regarding where these products are now manufactured and supported.
Analytik Jena US has completed the transfer of several product lines historically sold under the UVP brand to Jelight Company Inc. through an asset purchase agreement. The transition includes selected UVP ultraviolet light sources, UV meters and meter calibration services, handheld UV lamps, Crosslinker 3000 products, B-100 devices, and replacement tubes and lamps.
Jelight Company, based in Irvine, California, has an established business in ultraviolet lamps, UV equipment, radiometers, ozone generators and custom ultraviolet systems.
For customers who have relied on UVP products for many years, the good news is that a number of the familiar UVP ultraviolet product lines are continuing under Jelight.
At the same time, the transition has resulted in some changes to product availability that laboratories should be aware of.
Which UVP Products Have Transitioned to Jelight Company?
According to the official UVP announcement, the product lines transferred to Jelight include:
- UVP light sources
- UV meter products and meter calibration services
- UV handheld lamps
- Crosslinker 3000 products
- B-100 devices
- Replacement UV tubes and lamps[1]
Individual UVP product pages also identify several familiar products as having transferred to Jelight, including UVP handheld lamps, EL Series UV lamps, compact UV lamps, portable UV lamps, rechargeable UV lamps, Pen-Ray light sources, ozone generators and UV radiometers/meters.
These products fit naturally with Jelight's existing expertise. Jelight manufactures ultraviolet lamps and supplies laboratory equipment including radiometers, ozone generators and UV/Ozone cleaners.
Expect Some Longer Lead Times During the Transition
While the transition from Analytik Jena to Jelight has generally progressed well, we are currently seeing longer-than-normal lead times on some UVP products as Jelight works through the transition.
For laboratories replacing an existing UVP instrument or ordering equipment for a project with a firm deadline, we recommend checking availability before assuming the historical delivery time for a product still applies.
We are continuing to work with Jelight and will provide the most current availability information we have when quoting UVP products.
If your laboratory has an upcoming requirement, contacting us early gives us an opportunity to verify availability and determine whether a particular UVP model is still being manufactured.
Some UVP Products Have Been Discontinued
One of the most important changes is that not every former UVP product line transferred to Jelight.
The official UVP website states that UVP product lines outside the lines transferred to Jelight have been discontinued and are no longer offered for sale.
Several major product categories are specifically identified as discontinued.
UVP Gel Documentation and BioImaging Systems
The entire UVP BioImaging Systems category has been discontinued.
This includes several well-known gel documentation and imaging platforms, including:
UVP GelSolo
The GelSolo stand-alone gel documentation system is officially listed as discontinued.
UVP GelStudio Series
The UVP GelStudio gel documentation systems are officially discontinued.
UVP GelSnap
The compact, smartphone-based GelSnap imaging system is discontinued.
UVP ChemStudio Series
The ChemStudio systems used for applications including chemiluminescence, fluorescence, gel documentation and colorimetric imaging are listed as discontinued.
UVP Solo Elite
The compact Solo Elite gel documentation system has also been discontinued.
UVP BioSpectrum Advanced
The BioSpectrum Advanced all-in-one bioimaging system is listed as discontinued.
UVP also identifies its Basic Imaging Systems category as discontinued.
For laboratories currently using one of these imaging systems, the UVP website continues to provide access to product information and manuals for a number of the discontinued instruments.
Additional Discontinued UVP Laboratory Products
The changes extend beyond gel documentation equipment.
UVP currently identifies the following product categories or products as discontinued:
UVP PCR Workstations and Cabinets
All UVP PCR Workstations and Cabinets have been discontinued.
UVP Hybridization Ovens
UVP states that all of its Hybridization Ovens have been discontinued.
UVP Incubator
The UVP Incubator is officially discontinued.
UV Viewing Cabinets
UVP states that all UV Viewing Cabinets have been discontinued. This includes both Mini Chromato-Vue cabinets and larger Chromato-Vue models such as the C-70G, C-71 and C-75.
Specialty UV Lamps
UVP's ultraviolet products page identifies the Specialty UV Lamps category as discontinued.
UVP 3UV Lamps
The UVP handheld-lamp section specifically identifies the 3UV Lamps as discontinued.
This is not necessarily a complete model-by-model inventory of every legacy UVP product ever manufactured. Rather, these are products and categories that UVP currently identifies online as discontinued.
What About Analytik Jena Products?
Another important distinction is that this change does not mean that Analytik Jena itself has stopped supplying products in the United States.
Analytik Jena states that its other Analytik Jena products remain available through Analytik Jena US LLC.
The change specifically concerns selected product lines historically sold under the UVP brand.
That distinction can be confusing because UVP has a long history of its own. UVP was acquired by Analytik Jena in 2013 and subsequently operated as part of Analytik Jena's U.S. organization.
Customers may therefore encounter combinations of the names UVP, Analytik Jena and Jelight Company when searching for equipment, replacement lamps, documentation or support.
What Should Current UVP Customers Do?
If you own UVP equipment or are considering replacing an existing UVP product, the first step is determining whether the specific product:
- transferred to Jelight,
- remains an Analytik Jena product, or
- has been discontinued.
This is especially important if you are searching by an older UVP catalog number or model number.
New England BioGroup can help identify the current status of UVP products, check current availability and lead times, and determine whether a product has transitioned to Jelight or has been discontinued.
For discontinued UVP gel documentation systems in particular, we can also help laboratories evaluate currently available gel documentation alternatives based on the applications they need to perform rather than simply suggesting a one-size-fits-all replacement.
Need Help Finding a UVP Product?
Transitions like this can understandably create some confusion, particularly when a familiar UVP model has been used in a laboratory for many years.
If you are looking for a UVP lamp, transilluminator, radiometer, replacement UV bulb, Crosslinker or another former Analytik Jena/UVP product, feel free to contact New England BioGroup.
Provide us with the UVP model number or part number whenever possible. We can check its current status, availability and estimated lead time and help determine the best path forward.
We appreciate everyone's patience as Jelight works through the transition and look forward to continuing to support UVP customers.
